In the United States, a sheriff is an official in a county (or independent city) responsible for keeping the Peace & enforcing the Law. Unlike most law enforcement officials, sheriffs are usually elected and serve 4 year terms. Elected sheriffs are accountable directly to the citizens in their counties who elected them + their respective state’s constitution + the Constitution of the United States. 

Despite this centuries-old, fundamental American concept, the LA Board of Supervisors passed 4 to 1 – thank you Kathryn Barger for your honorable “no” vote #rightisright #wrongiswrong – Agenda Item No. 12 , proposed by Board Members Solis and Mitchell, to amend the County Charter to grant the Board of Supervisors the authority “to remove the Sheriff, by a four-fifths vote, for cause defined as a violation any law related to the performance of their duties as Sheriff, flagrant or repeated neglect of duties, a misappropriation of public funds or property, willful falsification of relevant official statement or document, or obstruction of any investigation into the conduct of the Sheriff[.]”

WHAT IS “CAUSE” YOU ASK?

Your guess is as good as mine – another problem – but I do wonder if “failing to enforce public health orders” will be part of it….

⚠️ Remember Senator Pan’s Senate Bill 1464 which would have defunded law enforcement agencies who did not enforce public health orders and which he had to pull because it was so illegal, unconstitutional, reeking of brown-shirt-ness and flawed? Doesn’t the Board’s action look like another bite at the same failed, rotten 🍎?

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW DESPOTIC, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, ILLEGAL AND INSANE THIS IS?

Another unilateral action by a local Board to override not only a law, but the Constitutions and “the will of the people.” To remove people who do not comply with & actually oppose – and strive to uphold – the Law? They are trying to chip away every protection we have, both within ourselves, as naturally-born, free human beings, and also by removing those charged by the Constitutions to protect us.

IT WILL NEVER STOP.
