Three of the “Bad Bills” are moving into the Assembly Appropriations Committee for hearing Wednesday, August 3, beginning at 9 a.m.: Senate Bill 1479 (Pan, testing), 1419 (Becker, sealing minor’s records), and 1296 (Pan, viral surveillance).

WHAT DO WE DO? 

(1) Call and email Assembly Appropriations Committee Members Capitol offices to voice your opposition on SB 1419, 1479, & 1296.  It is not too late.

• • • • Call before or on your way to work before offices open and leave voicemails.
        • Remember: if you are constituent, be sure to say that and identify yourself by ZIP.
        • If not, do not.  Simply leave a message voicing your opposition and that you will help vote that person out when they are up for reelection.
      • Staffers are available and can relay messages to them that people are calling to oppose the bills.
      • Note: Appropriations Committee members view bills to determine their fiscal – or financial – impact.  When emailing, calling or meeting with members of the Committee, focus on the bill’s impact on the State’s budget.  What will it cost to implement the bill?  What are the nature and potential cost of any liabilities?  Does the bill require additional insurance?  What if something goes wrong?  How will funding be allocated, used, and tracked?
      • Sample Script: Hello, My name is _______, I [live, work or have a business] in Assembly member_____district. I strongly oppose SB 1479, perpetual COVID testing programs in schools. The financial costs to the state could be close to $3 billion annually. This is wasteful spending for a infection that is now endemic and more than 75% of children have already recovered from. I demand that the Assembly member vote NO or ABSTAIN on SB 1479. Thank you.
